Basically, if you can walk somewhere and get fresh fruit and veg, you're already rich. (there's a few exceptions, but they're generally being evicted and pushed out of cities.)

Europeans don't, maybe sometimes can't, understand the absolute crushing pressure and gaslighting that most Americans are put through to make us the way we are.

It's a decades long effort to turn most of the population into a money and power pump for a tiny elite class, all while grinding us into dust.

We're crazy and scared all the time, and have no idea what's going on in the rest of the world.

There's a reason dying of opiates seemed like a rational choice to a lot of people.

@cstross@wandering.shop to actually answer your question, I've been struggling to find the magic words that will somehow make the world better and reverse my birth nation's fall into perdition. It feels as painful as it does urgent. I'm considering a series of articles about people in American history who resisted and advanced the nation, maybe in the mold of my very tiny bio of Fred Hampton. We have in many ways been here before, maybe reminding people will help?

Honestly this case is so bad that this isn't close to being its biggest flaw. That's still trying to prosecute someone for saying something pulled straight from the Uniform Code of Military Justice.
